LOCAL community radio station Triple U FM is set to stage its first ever radiothon.
The station, which is based upstairs in the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre, is raising funds to upgrade itsfacilities and meet the digital age.
The station requires several thousand dollars to pay for the upgrade and to stay on air.
US country star Tom T. Hall has thrown his weight behind the appeal.
Station spokesperson Big Al (Alec Field) said radiothons had proven to be a popular means of fund-raising by other community stations, especially in Melbourne, where they are held annually.
“The local radiothon has the support of music artists from across Australia and overseas, including the popular US country artist Tom T. Hall, who has backed the appeal,” he said.
The appeal will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 28-29 and will involve each announcer who appears on the station regularly having a one-hour program highlighting their type of music throughout the weekend.
“Donations will be urged and listeners can call 4422 1045 or 4422 1193 throughout the two days,” Mr Field said.
“Or donations can be left downstairs at the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre in Berry Street, Nowra, next to the library.”
