SHOALHAVEN Rural Fire Service was offline for two days last week after a power surge blew its phone lines.
The new phone system was tested as a precaution in the event of a power outage when the backup generator ‘fried’ the circuits.
District manager Mark Williams said they fixed the problem, however they experienced a real power outage the next day and the issue repeated itself.
“It is a good thing that this has happened now because it has given us a chance to rectify the issue – we are in the process of fixing it,” said Mr Williams.
“The outage has had no effect to our response as we announced the issue to all the brigades and we were using mobile phones and radios during the outage,” he said.
