A RAINBOW will adorn Junction Court today, when a rally supporting marriage equality is staged.
Organised by local barista Tobi Harris, the gathering will start with the chalking of a tolerance rainbow crossing, followed by public speakers. It will then gather outside the campaign office of Liberal candidate Ann Sudmalis.
What started as a Facebook shout-out has grown as word has spread.
Among the speakers will be Cr Amanda Findley from The Greens, Labor candidate Neil Reilly and community activist Paola Harvey from Wollongong.
Ms Harris said she decided to organise the rally because the time felt right.
“Obviously, it’s a huge issue broadly because we want marriage equality. We have quite a large LGBTI [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex] community here in Gilmore.
“We know the electorate is a little more conservative with all the religious groups based here but we think it is time to vote yes to marriage equality.
“So far the response has been really positive. We had help from the youth centre with posters and every business we approached has put them up for us.”
The rally will begin in Junction Court at 11.30am.
