LARGE sections of Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club have been ripped up by vandals who drove a car on the course.
Golfers teeing off early on Wednesday noticed the damage to the fifth fairway and contacted police.
This is not the first time vandals have used cars to destroy parts of the course.
The club in conjunction with the Lands Department are now looking into using bollards to close off access from Gerroa Road onto the course.
The club is run by volunteers and three paid greenkeepers.
Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club president Terry Lillie said there had been a real sense of pride about the club since it was extended to 18 holes in May last year.
“They’ve done doughnuts all over the place and damaged the bush on the way through too,” he said.
“Our membership went up considerably after we opened the 18 holes, and we have been getting visitors from all over the state.
“However we will have to wait until the growing season to cover this damage so it will probably take until Christmas,” he said.
Nowra Police are investigating the damage. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to phone Nowra Police Station on 4421 9699.
