WINNERS of the 2013 Southern NSW Restaurant and Catering Awards were announced on Monday with five South Coast restaurants taking out the top spot in a variety of categories.
The awards are in their 16th year, recognising restaurants’ and caterers’ hard work with winners going on to contest the national finals in Sydney on Monday, October 28.
The category winners included Huskisson’s Wildginger restaurant for best Asian restaurant, Kohli’s Indian Restaurant took out the top spot for their Nowra and Batemans Bay restaurants, Nowra’s Wharf Rd Restaurant and Bar won the new restaurant award and Shimmer Restaurant and Bar in Gerringong won the best contemporary Australian restaurant and bar (informal).

Tuscany Wood Fired Restaurant in Nowra was a finalist in the Italian restaurant category, along with new restaurant Bistro One46 in Kangaroo Valley. Zoobs Wood Fired Pizza in Gerringong was given an honourable mention in the pizza restaurant category.
Shimmer Restaurant and Bar owner and chef Mark Marshall said it was a fantastic surprise to win in their category and to take out the major award.
“The night was fantastic, we took the whole team up and we all had a great time,” Mr Marshall said.
“We are all so proud to represent our restaurant in this little town.
“We use as much local produce as can be sourced and change our menu frequently so our regulars always have something different to try,” he said.
