South Coast Group 7 Milton-Ulladulla Bulldogs v Nowra-Bomaderry JetsBill Andriske Mollymook Oval, Sunday 3pm
EVER since they have been out of finals contention, the Nowra-Bomaderry Jets have looked like a much stronger team.
They have had good wins against Batemans Bay and Albion Park and came within a whisker of upsetting the Gorillas in recent weeks, but unfortunately they left their run of form a bit too late.
Nevertheless, they will be hoping to finish off their season on a good note when they play the Milton-Ulladulla Bulldogs at Mollymook Oval on Sunday.
As far as big games go, it probably doesn’t come much tougher than the Bulldogs on their home soil, but in their final game of the season, they have a good chance to cause an upset.
When the two sides met earlier in the year at Nowra Showground, the Jets matched it with them for the first half, before running out of steam in the second.
One thing they have struggled to do this season is perform consistently over 80 minutes, but they are capable of beating anyone if they can maintain the enthusiasm until the final whistle.
They will take some confidence from their 42-30 win against Albion Park last week, but will need to be better if they are going to match it with the Bulldogs.
After leading the Eagles 24-nil early on, the Jets invited them back in the game and they actually drew level at 30-all in the second half.
While they were able to get it together in the final 10 minutes, they cannot afford another lapse this week.
Jets coach Nathan Deaves said he was after the win, but knows their performance was patchy.
“I knew if we got a start that it was a game we could win,” he said.
“They had me on the edge of my seat there at the end, but it was a good win,” he added.
Deaves did his coaching job from the sideline against the Eagles, but will return to the run-on side against the Bulldogs.
Geoff Johnson will also return in the halves after the missing the Albion Park.
Johnson was one of their key players in their come from behind win against Batemans Bay two weeks ago, and they will be looking to him and some of their other experienced players to lead them to victory.
