BATMAN, Robin, Shrek and Donkey will be in Nowra this weekend as part of a fund-raiser to grant seriously ill children a wish.
The well-known characters will be joining a group of other fun-loving local characters setting off on this year’s Trek4Kidz Starlight Children’s Foundation rally.
The week-long fund-raising adventure will leave from Nowra on Sunday morning, to tour towns and schools around NSW.
Three local teams will be among the crowd: Car Miss P with Terese and Warren Markham, Car 157 with Mandy Bourke and Glenn Buikstra and the team Snoopy with Ian Armstrong, Ben Forde and Bruce Soper.
This is Car Miss P’s first year on the Trek4kidz, having previously been involved with Camp Quality’s Escarpade for four years.
The teams must raise the $1500 entry fee per car and then raise as much as they can on top of that.
“Between our two, Miss P and Car 157, we have raised about $16,000 and all of that money goes to the Starlight Foundation,” Terese Markham said.
“I decided to get involved with Starlight after reading last year that they couldn’t afford to grant all of the children’s wishes for that year.
“Being a part of something like this restores your faith in people. Everyone from all different walks of life are there for the one reason, to help ill children.”
Since starting in 1997 the trek has visited more than 300 towns, 35 schools and raised more than $1 million for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The funds have enabled Starlight to grant 160 life-changing wishes or transform the hospital experience for 28,243 sick children around Australia.
The groups will be leaving the Archer Resort at 8am on Sunday.
