Shoalhaven City Council has advised the community of an overflow of sewage into the stormwater detention pond at Marriott Park, Nowra.
The overflow is a result of a blockage in the local sewerage system which has overflowed into the stormwater system leading to the pond at Marriott Park.
The blockage has been cleared and Council’s Environmental staff has undertaken water sampling tests.
A decision on further action will be made once the results of the tests are known. This is expected to take place within the next 24 hours.
Council has placed signs around the pond and is reminding local residents not to enter the water.
Council has notified the Environmental Protection Agency.
