ROD Gibb was just sitting there minding his own business when club president Peter Dooley asked him to come up the front at the Nowra Athletics Club winter presentation on Saturday.
Rod and his wife Jan then got a nice surprise, when they were presented with a framed photo to mark the 50 year anniversary of their owning the Willandra cross country course.
He said it was unexpected and came as a big surprise.
“I was just minding my own business, when Peter called us up and made this stunning presentation,” he said.
“I was lost for words for a while… which is quite unusual, because I’ve always got something to say,” he added.
Rod said it had honestly slipped by that it was their 50 year anniversary, although there were a few subtle hints.
“Actually, I kind of did know, because Robert Crawford had reminded me about it,” he said.
“But we were still very taken aback, it was quite amazing,”
There were more than a 100 club members there to mark the anniversary with the famous athletics couple, who were surprised, but humbled by the recognition.
Together with their children, Rod said the family was committed to keeping the course running for many more years to come.
