MARINE Rescue Shoalhaven unit commander Terry Watson is proud of what his volunteers achieved on Monday.
A woman hanging out washing in her backyard at Orient Point saw Mr Bretherton’s upturned boat and phoned triple-0.
Her phone call was quickly relayed to Marine Rescue and police.
“We were pretty fortunate we were having a meeting in the pilot house at the time and had two crews there,” Mr Watson said.
“We called the paramedics to attend and the police called Surf Rescue.
“At the time of the rescue the wind was 40 knots.
“Those conditions were very testing for our crews.
“In conditions like that we have to be careful our boat doesn’t end up capsizing,” he said.
Rescuers were told the man had a plastic drum which he was clinging to and he was wearing a lifejacket.
Mr Watson said it was a good response and result.
“This is the fifth person we’ve pulled out of the water in the past few weeks,” he said.
