The man was wearing a life jacket and clung to a buoy as he was being swept out to sea near Crookhaven Head.
Marine Rescue and Nowra-Culburra Surf Life Saving Club volunteers went to the man’s rescue. The Westpac Lifesaver helicopter was also at the scene.
He was taken to the Crookhaven Regional Boat Ramp and checked over by paramedics, who said he was physically alright but cold.
