A GROUP of young girls saw their future in a whole new light on Tuesday.
Nowra Anglican School students from years 5 to 8 took part in the Robogals initiative, introducing young women to engineering and technology.
The international, student-run organisation aims to increase women’s enrolment in these courses at university with the help of volunteers like University of Wollongong mechanical engineering student Anneleise Carratt.
With women only making up 10 per cent of the engineering workforce, Ms Carratt hopes to get more local girls interested in the field.
“My aim is to get to as many schools in the Shoalhaven by the end of the year,” Ms Carratt said.
“I’m trying to get girls a little more interested in engineering at an earlier age and get them to think about it as a career option.”
