NSW Mental Health Minister Kevin Humphries and South Coast MP Shelley Hancock presented the cheque, which shed members said would be a huge help.
Mr Humphries said Nowra Men’s Shed was vital to the community as it provided a place for men to gather.
“People are not meant to be isolated, company is important to people’s mental health,” Mr Humphries said.
“By bringing men together in a social environment and providing them with a purpose, this men’s shed is playing an extremely important role in combating issues such as loneliness.”
Mrs Hancock said she was extremely pleased to secure the grant and hoped to help the shed receive another $10,000 to pay for a ramp for disabled access and disabled bathroom facilities.
“Men’s sheds are a great place where local men form friendships as they work together on a diverse range of projects,” Mrs Hancock said.
The shed will be erected behind a Nowra Showground cottage, previously used as the caretaker’s residence.
The premises will be shared by Nowra Men’s Shed, Shoalhaven Wood Craft and Nowra Spinners and Weavers.
