LET’S get one thing straight, P. Drury (SCR Letters, April 17); the Shoalhaven needs the sort of investment and visitor opportunities that a motorsport facility would provide. Not only that, it means we can have access to the sport most of us love right here on our doorstep. That, I can support.

So why would any sensible person put all that at risk with a “quick and dirty” process? Ah, yes…Jo Gash says, don’t you worry about all that. Well, having seen how this group does business, I am hardly filled with confidence. We are dealing with the community’s money and assets here and we should therefore operate with transparency and integrity.
With just one vote of 13, I can hardly derail a project unless the ruling forces cannot handle a few searching questions (which seems to be the case). The mayor constantly bristles at these questions and any hint of publicity that is not driven by her operatives. I don’t have the time or inclination to plant letters in the media and give scripts out to talkback callers, but I will continue to argue for good process and good policy upon which we can build the future of this city.
As for negativity, it is hard to be positive about an 8 per cent rate rise that isn’t needed, a link road plan that’s in tatters and a long list of broken promises and misinformation that continues to flow from the Gash group – even at ratepayers’ expense. Any attempt to be positive based on the new “People’s Democratic Republic of Shoalhaven”, where we all clap, dance, smile and sing in celebration of the dear leader should be resisted by all of us if we value our local democracy and achieving real progress for our community.
