The Bomaderry Tigers hosted the 2012 premiers at Artie Smith Oval and what looked like being a close competition for the first two quarters blew out to a University walkover in the second half as the Tigers had no reply to the Bulldog’s scoring power.
Any wind free day at Artie Smith Oval is a rare one and the absence of a breeze meant both team’s kicking games could be tested.
Bomaderry started the game in style matching everything Uni did throughout the first quarter and even ended the opening 20 minutes with a one point lead 16-15.
In the second quarter, little split the two sides as Jordan Matthews and Jake Whittaker worked hard up front to make sure Bomaderry stayed competitive.
Both teams kicked two goals in the second quarter but University’s extra five behinds took it to the lead at the big break 4 – 8 (32) to 4 – 4 (28).
University decided to put its foot down in the third quarter gapping the Tigers by kicking seven unanswered goals 7 – 3 (46) to 0 – 1 (1). Its lead increasing to 48 points 11 – 11 (77) to 4 – 5 (29).
The final quarter was simply a case of Wollongong maintaining its lead and at the final siren the visitors had posted a 49 point victory 15 – 12 (102) to 8 – 5 (53).
