Disqualified driver charged after chase

A 21-YEAR-OLD Nowra man was charged with offences under Skye’s Law after leading police on a short pursuit, east of Nowra in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police started chasing the vehicle on Greenwell Point Road at around 12.45am after it had come to their attention for allegedly exceeding the speed limit and driving without its headlights on.

Police activated their lights and sirens and the driver refused to stop, turning into Milbank Road.

The chase only went for about a kilometre, before the car left the road and crashed into long grass on the eastern side of the road, coming to rest on the edge of a canal.

The driver and passenger were shaken but otherwise unhurt and were detained at the scene.

The driver was charged with offences under Skye’s Law, driving recklessly and in a dangerous manner and driving while disqualified.

He has been bailed to appear in Nowra Local Court on April 22.
