Aboriginal community and police to meet

A MEETING designed to strengthen communication and engagement between the Aboriginal community and police will be held on Wednesday, March 27.

The first local Police Aboriginal Consultative Committees meeting for the year will be held at Nowra Police Station from 10am until 12noon and police want to encourage members of the local Aboriginal community who would like to work in partnership with them to attend.

Aboriginal issues officer for Shoalhaven Local Area Command, Inspector Steve Johnson said the PACC meeting would allow the two groups to work together to develop the command’s Aboriginal Action Plan to identify and direct police initiatives.

“The first step in the Aboriginal Action Plan is seeking direct input from the local Aboriginal community and we will be commencing this process at the PACC meeting,” he said.

“This process gives Aboriginal people a strong voice in how their community is policed and is about finding local solutions for local problems.”
