A FISHERMAN who fell off rocks into the ocean at Bawley Point was rescued by helicopter on Saturday.
Around 10am on March 16, the 42-year-old Bowral man was rock fishing with a friend near Merry Beach when he lost his footing on slippery rocks and fell.
His friend tossed him a life preserver ring which helped the man stay afloat until the Westpac rescue helicopter arrived.
The man was winched from the water and treated for minor cuts and abrasions.
Police have reminded rock fishermen of the dangers of the sport and advised the following safety tips:
Never fish alone; inform others of your plans; wear light clothing; wear appropriate footwear; carry safety gear; never fish in exposed areas during rough or large seas; observe conditions for at least 30 minutes before fishing; plan an escape route in case you are washed in; stay alert and ask advice from locals.
