ENDEAVOUR Energy has assured the community that sections of footpath excavated on the corner of O’Keefe Avenue and Junction Street, Nowra would be restored to their original condition.
The paving was pulled up to allow for repairs to a damaged underground electricity cable.
“Our crews are currently working day and night to locate an underground cable fault that occurred last week,” an Endeavour Energy spokesperson said.
“While generally very reliable, faults in underground cables are notoriously difficult to locate when they do occur.
“This case is complicated by the presence of several underground cables in this location that could potentially be the source of the problem.
“Some of these are older style cables that are directly buried in the ground, making them more difficult to find because they are not in conduits.”
The spokesperson said it was not possible to accurately forecast completion of the works at this time.
“While we want to complete repairs as quickly as possible, we need to be careful not to create further inconvenience by damaging other gas, water and telecommunications utilities that may be buried in the vicinity.
“Our crews will continue to work day and night and, if necessary, through the weekend to find and repair the faulty cable.
“The generator we have installed [in Junction Court] will continue to supply local shops and traffic lights affected by the fault until repairs are completed,” the spokesperson said.
