Judo stars take to mat for the first competition

MEMBERS of the Shoalhaven Heads Bushido judo Club recently competed in a local Judo tournament. It was a new experience for some first-time competitors. 

Piper Ryan from Shoalhaven Heads made her competition debut and won her division ahead of fellow club member Madison Doosey from Shoalhaven Heads, who was competing in his first tournament. Lilian Bradley from Berry came third.

Mitchell Cartwright from Gerringong went on to win the gold medal from Cooper Ryan from Shoalhaven Heads and Tom Bradley.

Zac Fergusson from Bomaderry won the gold medal in a hard fought and exciting match against his brother Sam Fergusson. Jayden Thompson from Shoalhaven Heads finished third.

Toby Borg-Booker from Shoalhaven Heads had great results in his first tournament, winning the gold medal ahead of another debutant Tom Rosz from Shoalhaven Heads.

Cooper Doherty from Werri Beach won the gold medal in his division with his brother Braxton Doherty winning the silver medal. 

Both boys were competing in their first tournament.

Dan Quirk from Gerringong fought exceptionally hard to win the gold medal from Nathan Batman from Shoalhaven Heads. Angus Israel-Marquis from Bomaderry finished third.

Drew Quirk from Gerringong fought well to win the gold medal from Mollymook’s Lachlan Congram. Fellow club member Charlie Bramley from Berry finished third. 

Berry’s Dario Simic won the gold medal from club member James Doosey from Shoalhaven Heads. 

State representatives did not compete because of other tournament commitments.
