Driver’s bad start to the new year

DRINK-driving has cost a Northern Territory man $1500 and a two-year driving ban.

In Nowra Local Court, Duane Charlie, 30, from Driffield Street, Anula, was also given a two-year good behaviour bond.

Charlie was leaving Bamarang Nature Retreat at 4.50am on New Year’s Day when he lost control of his car at the intersection of Yalwal and Longreach roads.

He drove straight through the intersection into trees, damaging the front of his car.

Charlie was uninjured and walked to a nearby property to call triple-0.

Police took him to Nowra Police Station where he had a breathalyser reading of .188.
