A MAN died after the truck he was driving ran off the Princes Highway and into trees at Termeil, South of Ulladulla, on Thursday morning.
The 70-year-old was driving his small Isuzu truck north on the Princes Highway when it crossed to the wrong side of the road about 1.3km south of the Bawley Point Road intersection, then continued into a large tree about 7.30am.
The man was trapped in the truck with multiple injuries.
Paramedics were joined by police and Fire and Rescue officers as they worked to free the man and keep him alive, while the Snowy Hydro SouthCare helicopter was called in to transport the man to hospital for emergency treatment.
However the helicopter was called off when the man died in the truck a short time later.
The accident resulted in one lane of the highway being blocked for several hours as emergency service personnel tried to save the man, with the closure continuing as specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit started looking into the cause of the accident.
Police are also preparing a report for the coroner.
