Pharmacy CCTV catches shoplifter in the act

A NOWRA woman caught shoplifting has been jailed for 12 months.

Kirsty Jane Meehan, 34, of Numbaa Way, faced four charges of shoplifting, one of larceny and one of having goods suspected of being stolen when she appeared in Nowra Local Court.

Meehan was last caught in Priceline in Junction Street on February 3.

She was filling a script when employees became suspicious. One followed and asked if she wanted help but Meehan said no.

As she left Meehan offered her bag for a check, but the employee could see nothing suspicious inside.

She returned a few minutes later to collect her script, which she paid for.

After she left employees viewed CCTV which showed Meehan taking $237 worth of perfume from the shelf.

Police spoke to Meehan later that day when she was in custody over a separate matter. She told them she remembered smelling the perfume but not taking it.

Meehan’s other shoplifting charges related to thefts from Westfield Liverpool on November 15 of a flea comb and makeup worth $51.19 from Coles and on December 6 of a $25 dress from Supre and $156.84 worth of DVDs and men’s clothes from Target.

In court Meehan also had a bond revoked for shoplifting and assaulting the owner of Nana Fashion in Berry Street in June 2011. It was replaced with her jail sentence.

Meehan will be eligible for parole in six months.
