Businesses urged to welcome new mums

NEW mothers and their babies are set to benefit as Shoalhaven City Council combined with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) to update the popular Breastfeeding Shoalhaven resource card.

In one of the largest projects of its type in Australia, Breastfeeding Shoalhaven has seen more than 180 local businesses and organisations register as Breastfeeding Friendly Venues and baby change facility locations.

Shoalhaven Mayor Joanna Gash encouraged all local businesses and organisations interested in joining the project to get involved.

“While a number of organisations, shopping centres and businesses have baby care facilities, these aren’t always well publicised, meaning those with young families are often unaware of the location of these facilities.”

Once updated, the wallet size resource card outlining local breastfeeding friendly localities will be available from a range of community organisations, businesses and council facilities in the Shoalhaven.

The list will also be available on both Shoalhaven City Council and the Australian Breastfeeding Association’s websites.
