Ward puts his pedals to the metal

SHOALHAVEN mountainbiker Tristan Ward has finished in second position at the national round of the MTB National Series in Thredbo, held from February 8 to 10.

Ward crashed out of the sprint eliminator in the qualifying time trial on the Friday, then on Saturday he competed in the cross country, which was the main event.

The five kilometre course had a long climb up a ski slope, which did not suit Ward’s strengths.

Ward started strong and led the first lap, and went with countless attacks throughout the five lap race.

He finished the course in one hour and 20 minutes, which was second by 10 seconds.

Ward went on to compete on Sunday in the point to point, which was a flat 33 kilometre race at

Mt Crackenback.

The racing was extremely fast from the start but he was able to hold on to the sprint and take the win.

Ward was second for the round and is now equally leading the national series with the national championships two weeks away.
