Ganderton has Basin shaky

A big hitting 44 by Bay and Basin’s Dave Rickwood that included six boundaries and a six has give his side a fighting chance at Hayden Drexel Oval against a hard bowling Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen team led by Matt Ganderton.

After the home side won the toss and sent Basin to the crease under threatening skies, Heath Tan got the visitors off to a strong start making his his way to a quick 37 that included five fours.

Brandon Labb posted 13 but Johno Hill (1) and Philip Leyshon (2) had a rare lapse with the bat as Matt Ganderton started on his way to an eventual 5five wicket bag.

Santino Battagliolo tried to kick start the innings by posting 17 before he became another Ganderton victim, caught by Matt Tyler.

When Colin Searson and Rickwood combined for a half century partnership things appeared back on track. However, Joel Lahene and Michael Dolby were both dismissed without score and Bay ended its inning on 146 from 45 overs.

Matt Ganderton’s impressive figures of 5/48/18.5 were the standout for Ex-Servos followed by another strong showing from Josh Jones (3/47/18).

Jones kicked off the Ex-Servicemen’s run chase with 19 before retiring. At stumps on day one the home side was 3/72 with Shane Halliday (15) and Brady Spelta (11) at the crease.

Colin Searson claimed both Ex-Servicemen wickets to finish the day with 2/19 from seven overs.

Ex-Servos require 75 runs this Saturday to claim first innings points.
