Northern link road meeting provides chance to have say

MEMBERS of the public will get the opportunity to discuss Shoalhaven City Council’s northern link road strategy.

A public meeting, to be held before April 30, will allow local community members, businesses and community organisations to have their say on the future direction of the project and ask staff and councillors questions.

Council recently released a report on the link road provided to councillors by staff at a briefing in December.

The briefing provided the new council with relevant background information on the history of the North Nowra Link Road project, both northern and southern route options and the key project assessment areas.

Council received official notification from the Planning Assessment Commission (PAC) in early January that the NSW government had approved its concept plan application for construction of the link road.

The approval was subject to further assessment requirements and related only to the alignment of the northern route (adjacent to Cambewarra Road).

Following the PAC determination, council resolved to defer the planning process in building the northern link road option until a review of traffic modelling was undertaken.

It also resolved to commence studies into a proposed Illaroo Road-Moss Vale Road link and undertake further consultation with Roads and Maritimes Services about traffic relief on the Princes Highway.

Shoalhaven mayor Joanna Gash encouraged residents to read link road briefing report before attending the upcoming public meeting.

“The North Nowra link road has been a contentious ongoing issue for the residents of Bomaderry and Nowra for over 30 years,” said Cr Gash.

“While the community is no doubt looking forward to this project finally commencing, council is focused on ensuring that the link road will properly address the traffic objectives relating to future growth in the area.

“To do this, council needs to further investigate the relevant traffic studies and properly explore all options before making a decision on the final direction of this project.”

The North Nowra Link Road briefing report can be found on council’s website www.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au on the Projects under Investigation – Public Exhibition page.
