Gas line complicates water repair

PARTS of Bomaderry are still without water after a main burst in Meroo Road last night, with a gas line complicating repair work.

Water to the area was turned off earlier this morning and Shoalhaven Water director Carmel Krogh said would it be off for the remainder of the day.

Supplies have been cut to homes around Meroo Road, Samuel Street, and Penrose Drive and right through to Jasmine Drive.

Mrs Krogh said the repair was a delicate operation.

“There are Telstra pits right above the break and we were concerned that they may collapse,” she said.

“There is also a gas line as well, so we have been working on coming up with a short-term fix to get the water back on to residents.

“We are looking at cutting in some additional valves and divert the area around the burst section.

“We hope to have that completed by the end of the day and will undertake a major repair at a later date.”

Shoalhaven Water says around 30 homes were effected, and council staff had been in the area distributing bottled water to affected residents. A tanker has also been made available for people who need additional water.
