I READ with interest M. Cochrane’s letter (SCR, February 6) about the Jaspers Brush airfield.

I am sure, like me, there are many long-time Shoalhaven locals who don’t know where the airfield is but have heard of pilots starting their careers there.
The people against everything are minority headaches; they have sold out in Sydney for a great sum of money and bought some acres near the airfield, retired early with time on their hands. They get up in the morning, take a blood pressure pill, then worry about what they are going to do for the rest of the day.
They bring attention to the one-off unfortunate accident that happened on the airfield last year. I am sure the noise factor could not be that bad.
As I understand it, the airfield is not used every day and it has been there longer than these groups.
I would suggest to Mr Cochrane to call a meeting at Shoalhaven City Council in support of the airfield and the locals will be out in droves to back you.
P. Drury,
Nowra.
