Man hid in cupboard

ASSAULTING a woman has resulted in a 22-month jail sentence for a Nowra man.

In Nowra Local Court Douglas Peter Potts, 43, of Stuart Street, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

He had been arguing with a woman on the evening of October 27 last year when he grabbed her by the jaw and she fell off a chair.

She felt dizzy and had a pain in the side of her face and her vision was blurred.

Potts gave her a bag of frozen peas and she told him to leave.

The next day she visited her mother who noticed her bruised and swollen eye and bleeding eyeball and told her to call the police.

Two days later police found Potts at home hiding inside a bedroom cupboard.

He has been behind bars since October 30 last year and will be eligible for parole on October 29.
