Thief caught by DNA

STEALING $1200 worth of tools and fishing rods from a ute has put a Nowra man behind bars for six months.

In Nowra Local Court, Trevor Wayne Williams, 27, of Hockey Street pleaded guilty to a charge

of larceny.

His victim had parked the ute in the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre car park at 7.30pm on July 14 last year.

He returned three hours later to find overalls and camping chairs lying on the ground beside his ute among broken glass.

The thief had taken his tool box and tools, two fishing rods and a beach bag with two sets of swimmers and towels.

A police forensic team examined the ute and found blood which gave them a DNA match to Williams.

Police went to see him in South Coast Correction Centre on November 14 last year, but he declined an interview.

Williams’ sentence also covers two charges of shoplifting from August 28 – $130 worth of meat from Coles and $24 for two multifunction tools from Dollar King.
