I REFER to the story 'Parking committee eyes reserve fund' in the Register on February6.
In it, Lance Sewell says, “people who work in Nowra and had no hope of legally parking if they arrived in town after 8.15am on any week day”.
Imagine my surprise when I arrived at Stewart place at 9.45am on Friday, February 8, when I found quite a few spaces available in the three-hour section.
When I left at 11am, there were again a number of vacant spots.
I know these may not suit workers who want all-day parking, but they would suit people who want to see “doctors, dentists, lawyers, hairdressers and people wanting to visit the cinema”.
I also took a walk to the Bridge Road parking area. There were any number of all-day spaces available, just six minutes’ walk, at my leisurely pace, from Junction Street. All looked legal to me.
Clearly, Mr Sewell is wrong to state there are no legal parking places available after 8.15am.
I would also suggest that it would not be difficult for the Register to check the accuracy of statements like this before printing it as a fact, particularly after mentioning the underuse of the Bridge Road car park on January 21.
J. Weenink,
Nowra.
