A TOUGH couple of weekends for the Bomaderry first grade side continued on Saturday when it engaged in a day-long arm wrestle with Ulladulla United at the Ulladulla Sporting complex.
After scoring 96 runs in its first innings, Bomaderry had Ullladulla on the ropes at 6/37 when play resumed on Saturday afternoon.
Bomaderry finished off the Ulladulla tail end to claim first innings points.
But the suspension of Scott Fagerlund and John Muggleton mid-week, for incidents at last weekend’s Twenty20 final, meant an under-strengthened Bomaderry side struggled to stop Ulladulla launching an assault on outright points.
Ulladulla’s captain Mark Jackson ripped a hole in the Bomaderry second innings batting line-up on his way to 6/34 from 13.3 overs.
Blake Munilla (13) and Jordan Matthews (11) were the only two Tigers players to make double figures as the visitors crumbled to be dismissed for just 79 runs in the 26th over.
Requiring 118 runs to claim outright points, Harley Bell got the home side off to a dream start with a half century that laid a great foundation for the following batsmen.
Despite the best efforts of Jason Bell (4/52/11), Bomaderry could not stop Ulladulla reaching the required total in the 30th over to claim outright points.
With Berry drawing the bye for the next round and Nowra and Bomaderry going head-to-head, the first grade action should be red hot over the final two rounds as five teams fight for a top four finals berth.
