STRANEY’S ANGELS: Showgirls Sarah Aldous, Abby McPherson and Cobie Browne from St Georges Basin competed in the hay rolling competition at Nowra Show on Saturday night.
THE gate takings were up on last year’s show, competitor numbers in some events also increased and the show committee has released a collective sigh of success.
Show secretary Jennifer Munn was quick to thank the army of volunteers who put in countless hours to bring together one of the region’s most popular annual events.
“This is my second show as secretary and I’m very happy with how it went,” she said.
“We had a huge crowd here on Saturday and there were people right around the arena watching the events.”
Mrs Munn said the special-guest event, jousting was popular along with the beaut ute competition.
However one of the stand out’s was conducted at a slower pace, Ron McKinnon’s bullocks.
Show committee member and volunteer Jenny Dawson said when Mr McKinnon walked his bullock team among the crowd, people were amazed.
“He just took them through the crowds and people were overwhelmed, they just couldn’t help but stop and watch them, I was overwhelmed at people’s reactions, it was fantastic,” she said.
This year’s showgirl, Amy Evison, was announced late last year, rather than at the show due to the zone showgirl announcement occurring on Saturday in Sydney.
Despite not being selected Ms Evison did the region proud.
Chief gate steward Rod Gibbs said for the first time he had traffic backed up to get in at the main gate at 8pm Saturday.
“We were overwhelmed at the main gate and I haven’t seen that before,” he said.
