Nowra man charged with gun offences

A 26-year-old Nowra man has been refused bail and will reappear in Nowra Local Court on February 15 on firearms and driving charges relating to the shooting of a house in Nowra on December 29.

Trent Waide Briar, of Bainbridge Crescent Nowra did not apply for bail, which was formally refused, when he appeared in Nowra Local Court on Friday after being arrested by Nowra Police on Thursday.

Briar was charged with two counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, a .22 Remington bolt action rifle, possessing a shortened firearm (not a pistol) without authority, possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit and possessing ammunition without holding a licence.

He was also charged with driving offences from December, including two counts of driving while disqualified and knowingly driving a vehicle that menaces others.

Briar was remanded in custody and will appear in Nowra Local Court on Friday via video link.
