Green means go: driver charged

STOPPING at a green light has cost a drunk driver $1500.

In Nowra Local Court, Graham Eugene Smith, 59, of Isabel Close, South Nowra was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.

At 1.20am on September 7, police spotted a car with red P-plates stopped at a green light on Kalandar Street. 

It moved off when the lights turned amber and the police followed as it swerved into East Nowra shops.

They arrested Smith and took him to Nowra Police Station where his breathalyser reading was .188.

He told police he had drunk a 750ml bottle of port over the previous 12 hours.
