THE Huskisson over 35s football team has picked up its first piece of silverware for the 2013 season when it travelled to Goulburn and contested the Over 35s Veteran’s Knockout.
Huskisson played three games on Saturday and one on Sunday, with the Sunday game sending the side into the final for the plate.
Huskisson was drawn in a pool with Wooded, Barradoo and Tahmoor.
It lost the first game 4-nil to Barradoo, but won the next two 3-1 against Wooden and 1-nil against Tahmoor to finish fifth out of the 12 teams.
The Huskisson side originally thought it would play a team from another pool in the lead-up to the finals but as Tahmoor came seventh, Huskisson faced it again on Sunday morning. The 3-1 victory put Huskisson into the final against local side Hats Blue.
The tough decider went into extra time and then on to penalties. Huskisson eventually emerged victorious 3-1, a great team effort by all. Adding to Shoalhaven’s success was victory by the Kangaroos, a combined team from Shoalhaven United, Bomaderry and Wreck Bay, that won the cup 1-nil.
