Falls Creek school cut off from highway

EASTERN access to Parma Road, Falls Creek from the Princes Highway, has been cut following recent structural damage to the Parma Creek Bridge.

With barriers in place to restrict traffic movement, local residents have been asked to access Parma Road from the western end at Braidwood Road.

Director of City Services and Operations, Bill Paterson said council staff would be working to ensure minimum disruptions to the local community while the bridge was closed.

“Council has previously reduced both the speed and load limits on Parma Creek Bridge in an attempt to prolong the bridge’s lifespan,” said Mr Paterson.

“Disappointingly it appears as though one or more motorists may have broken the load limit and in doing so, caused serious structural damage to the bridge.”

Council engineers inspected the bridge yesterday. Rehabilitation work is expected to take a minimum of six weeks.
