Nathan and team set to sizzle

THE team from Mountain Side Meats at Shoalhaven Heads is gearing up for an assault on the National Sausage King Competition in Perth next weekend.

Nathan Alcock and his team qualified for the national finals after taking out a gold medal at the NSW titles last year.

They will be putting their traditional Australian pork sausage up against the best in the country.

“We are quietly confident of doing well,” he said.

“We have already accounted for NSW and the ACT; we just have five other states and one territory to beat now.

“Hopefully, we can get first place in Australia – we stand just as good a chance as anyone else.

“Just to get to this level is a great achievement and something we are proud of – either way, we are winners.”

Mr Alcock and his team will produce two kilos of their traditional pork sausages, place them in an Esky with ice bricks before taking them to Perth for the competition.

The sausages are then cooked and half a dozen independent judges and tasters decide the overall winner.

“We won’t be doing anything different, it will be the same recipe we use in our traditional pork sausages in the shop each and every day of the week,” he said.

The winners of Australia’s best sausages will be announced on February 9.
