FRIENDS came from afar to the Angel Cafe in Huskisson on Saturday to pay tribute to Matt Sykes.
Matt regularly played drums with the band that performs on Saturday afternoons at the cafe.
But this Saturday they played for him and the evening was like no other seen in the small town.
The band was joined by his fellow musicians, including those from the popular local band Southerly Change in which he was the drummer, in a drumming extravaganza that inspired complete strangers to start conga lines along Huskisson’s main street, the Angel Cafe staying open long past closing time to let the tribute continue.
“Matt would have loved this,” said another close friend as Matt’s friends, locals and tourists danced together and cheered in beautiful tribute to a much loved musician who will be sorely missed by many.
