TO celebrate the NSW Planning Assessment Commission’s decision to drop the Pitt Street-Narang Road link road option in favour of the West Cambewarra Road parallel option, Greens candidate for Gilmore Terry Barratt was joined by Friends of Bomaderry Creek at the Narang Picnic Area in the Bomaderry Creek Regional Park recently for a tree planting.
Mr Barratt also announced he would be investigating a proposal to secure the old North Nowra tip as a site for a solar array.
“The old North Nowra tip is like a moonscape now that it’s been capped by clay,” he said.
“It strikes me that it would possibly a perfect location for solar panels. It would be a way of turning a negative eyesore into a productive site.
“A series of solar arrays could provide cheap power for the community.
“It could be a demonstration site for other
communities, how to turn an eyesore into something useful.
“Of course it would require community and government to get behind it.
“The federal government has a sustainable energy fund which could help.”
Mr Barratt said he would seek to discuss the idea with council and anyone else who might have an interest in it.
