“You’ve got to get into the spirit of Australia Day,” said owner Wayne Kennedy.

“This is all a bit of fun and the creations have certainly made for some interesting comments from customers.

“We are just being patriotic, getting caught up in the spirit of the day and our customers are getting in on the fun.

“And what’s more Australian than having a barbie on Australia Day? You have to have sausages for that so we just thought, ‘Let’s make some green and gold and red and blue varieties.’

“The meat industry has a real push on lamb for Australia Day with the Lambnesia campaign on TV with Sam Kekovich, promoting lamb products but we just thought we would do something else a bit different.”

He said the “new line” had certainly proved to be a talking point among customers.

“Most when they come in and see them for the first time go ‘Wow,’” he said.

“It is hard for them to get their head around having a green or a blue sausage, it’s definitely something they aren’t used to.

“We are having plenty of people looking in the front window and having a laugh. And there are plenty of smiles around.”

So far they have produced around 100kg of the new green and gold and red and blue sausages.
