A MOUNTAIN bike stolen from the back of a car in Nowra on January 16 has devastated a 10-year-old girl, who had just received it for her birthday.
Holly Boyle from Kangaroo Valley was still excited at the prospect of having her first new bike when her family took her to the mountain bike trails in West Nowra.
It was the first time she had received a bike that was not a hand-me-down from her brother.
After riding through the trails at Cabbage Tree Lane, Holly, with her father Ian Boyle, stopped in Nowra for a drink.
“Between 11.40am and 11.45am on Wednesday, January 16 we pulled into the Coles car park right outside Subway and went in to Nowra Mall to buy a drink to rehydrate after the ride,” Mr Boyle said.
“Her bike was on a rack attached to the back of the car. In the five minutes we were gone the bike was stolen.
“We checked in Subway but nobody saw anything suspicious.
“There is a security camera pointing right at where the car was parked and the police were going to look at the footage this week with the hope of identifying those responsible.”
The bike is a purple Scott Contessa Mountain Bike which the family brought into Australia from the US.
“This model is not imported into Australia so there will not be another one like it in Nowra,” Mr Boyle said.
Anyone with information about a bike that was removed from a white four-wheel-drive on Wednesday January 16 should phone Nowra Police on 4421 9699.
