WITH the country championships being held this weekend, Nowra Athletics Club members have been using holiday competition to hone their skills.
In preparation for the event, to be held at Glendale in Newcastle, a variety of events were on offer on Wednesday night giving everyone a great training mix.
As proof of the level of commitment leading into the championships two records were broken in the one evening. Scott Richardson blew the previous men’s 30-39 years 100 metre record apart with a blistering 10.9, lowering the 11.6 record set in 2008.
Kevyn Davis ran equally well in the long distance arena breaking his own 5km record in the men’s 60-69 years event. Kevyn ran a time of 22.07, beating his own previous record by a whopping three seconds.
Tonight’s competition will again feature a variety of events giving athletes a final hit-out before they head to Glendale.
Athletes are reminded that they must wear the correct Nowra Club uniform to compete. That is official club top and black shorts.
Friday night’s 6km summer road run was cancelled due to the scorching 46 degree heat, the first time a run has ever been cancelled. This Friday night’s run will be a pairs run at Cambewarra. Meet at the
village hall at 6.15pm ready for a 6.30pm start.
