WANDANDIAN residents Janice Price and her mother June Powter praised the work of the RFS volunteers.
“They were marvelous,” Ms Price said.
“We had a lot of smoke around the area and helicopters were all above us including at one stage looking to take water out of a little water course we have out the back.
“It was a bit stressful but the firies put in a great effort; we all have a lot of respect for them and all their work.
“You couldn’t ask for any more than what they did.
“They give up their time to protect the community and for some, who may be casual workers, probably miss out on pay.”
Mrs Powter said she agreed with calls that the volunteers should all be honoured by being allowed to take part in the Anzac Day marches.
“I think that would be wonderful,” she said.
“I heard that the RSL may have even suggested it.
“All those volunteers – RFS, SES – they are all heroes and deserve to be honoured.”
