THE Bomaderry Tigers Australian Football Club has commenced training for 2013 with sessions being held every Tuesday and Thursday at Artie Smith Oval starting at 6pm.
All players are requested to bring runners, boots, a towel and be dressed and ready to go at least five minutes prior to start time.
After the disappointing end to last season the club is hoping everyone is keen to hit the
ground running for the start of
the 2013 season.
Missing last year’s grand final was a bitter pill to swallow for the club and while injuries and bad luck can be used as scapegoats, the reality is that the team as a whole didn’t work hard enough.
While the opposition deserves full credit, had the Tigers taken its chances in the preliminary final against the eventual premiers it could have been a different story.
The club is pleased to announce that Matthew Ganderton has been re-appointed as first grade coach for 2013. Gando will be assisted by Matt Cace and will also be supported by Marty Kick who is looking to get a little bit more involved this year. At this stage the club is still looking for someone to coach the reserve grade side and would
gladly welcome any support on
the sidelines.
Graham Duke returns as the coach of the under 18 side and is keen to repeat last year’s success.
As a player, Gando’s record speaks for itself: five first grade premierships, selection in the club’s 40th anniversary all-star team, a first grade best and fairest recipient, Tunbridge medalist, captain of the SCAFL rep side
and three years experience in
the strong Hume league playing
for Lockhart.
Matt Cace also needs no introduction having played in three premierships, a two-time club best and fairest winner and the Tiger’s most recent premiership coach.
Martin Kick played for and was associated with the likes of Carlton, Ainslie and a number of teams in the strong Ovens and Murray league before guiding Bomaderry’s first and reserve grade sides to premierships in
2004 and 2006. Since stepping down in 2007 he has coached the SCAFL representative side with great success.
With coaching staff sorted, and a training schedule in place, the club has now turned its attention to recruiting players. Early mail is that the club has picked up some handy recruits, but a number have also departed.
The club is always looking for new players to join so if you are new to the Shoalhaven and would like to get involved with a successful, friendly, family orientated AFL club, please give the Bomaderry Tigers Club a call. That invitation applies to everyone regardless of how much, or how little, AFL experience you have.
If you have been out of the game for a couple of years or are looking for a change the Bomaderry Tigers AFC will always welcome you.
