EYE OPENER: Wandandian General Store and Coastal Angler owner Ron O’Conner has never experienced anything like last Tuesday’s fire emergency.
THE Wandandian General Store and Coastal Angler is located just south of the Wandandian Progress Hall, which was used as a staging area for the local RFS brigades.
Ron O’Conner has owned the business for just over a year and lives 100 metres further south on the highway.
He got a close first-hand look at how busy the local volunteers were.
“They were everywhere and did a fantastic job, working tirelessly,” he said.
“I stayed at my house with my hose ready.”
Mr O’Conner said the emergency was an eye opener.
“I come from Wollongong originally and only moved here three weeks ago and have never seen anything like this,” he said.
“A few locals have said, ‘Welcome to Wandy’.
