SHOALHAVEN cycling sisters, Bridget and Natasha Mullany, have started 2013 in scintillating form.
The pair stared for the Illawarra Academy of Sport cycling squad by claiming a swag of medals at last week’s NSW Junior Track Cycling Championships held in Sydney. Between them the pair accounted for a high majority of the team’s 13 gold medals captured in the individual time trial, sprint and individual pursuit events.
Competing in the JW17 class, Bridget achieved a clean sweep claiming gold medals in the individual time trial, sprint and individual pursuit. The unbeaten run brought her gold medal tally for the championship series to six. She also came within 0.18 of beating the Australian sprint record.
Younger sister Natasha claimed gold in the individual pursuit and silver in the time trial bringing
her medal tally for the JW15 series to three gold medals and two
silver medals.
Another Shoalhaven local Chelsea Oaten from Bay and Basin also performed well at the championship claiming a brand JW15 time trial and fourth in the sprint.
February will be another busy month for Bridget and Natasha when the pair contests the Australian junior track championships as part of the NSW championships. Both girls are back into a full training routine and will be chasing a number of titles at the national event.
