JOYLANDS Carnival at Huskisson raised $10,500 to be donated to the Shoalhaven Linear Accelerator Committee.
The money was raised during the carnival’s annual Jervis Bay Lions Club charity day held on Sunday.
The day featured half-price entry with unlimited rides from 10am until 2pm and in its third year has gained a popular position on the community’s calendar.
Jervis Bay Lions Club president Maureen Clemence was overwhelmed by the donation, which she said would be passed on to the Linear Accelerator Committee.
“We are very grateful to George and Joy Melonas and their staff; they are very generous each year.
“We also thank the community for its support of this fund-raiser,” she said.
Mr Melonas, who decided to run the fund-raiser three years ago after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, was very pleased with the takings.
“The first year we raised about $10,000. Last year wasn’t so good because of the rain but this year was fantastic,” he said.
Director of Joyland Amusements Greg Webster said a lot of staff donated their time on the day.
“Our employees donated time, and the Jervis Bay Lions Club members were here manning the gates,” he said.
“I think this event is getting bigger. People know about it now – I’m sure it will continue to grow.
“We have two fireworks nights, including one on Australia Day. Money raised from those events will also be donated to the Lions Club,” he said.
The carnival will be open until the night of Wednesday, January 27.
