Firies’ temporary home at Nowra Showground

OUT of area teams, known as strike teams are being accommodated at a base camp that was established on the added area at the Nowra Showground on Friday.

Two strike teams are being housed at the camp.

RFS operations support officer James Morris said depending on the size of the fire incident the scale and complexity of base camp accommodation and attached facilities could change.

“They can include dining tents, catering and even masseurs.

“We have had plenty of accommodation here for the strike teams until now but now we have realised this will most likely be a protracted event, so the tents could be there for about two weeks.”

Firefighters are housed in large tents which are air conditioned to allow those returning from the night shift firefighting to sleep through the day.
